Hampton Roads, VA (November 18, 2010) – Hampton Roads LIVE provided event coverage for The Taste of Chesapeake.
The Chesapeake Care Free Clinic held its 13th Annual Taste of Chesapeake at the Marriott Hotel in Chesapeake, VA. The Chesapeake Care Free Clinic is a non-profit organization that started in October 1992 by Dr. Juan Montero, a local surgeon, who has remained an active volunteer and board member. The 6,600 sq. ft. facility is staffed by 17 full and part-time employees and they also rely heavily on the volunteers including physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, hygienists, pharmacists, nurses and medical assistants. Even when an outside referral is necessary, a strong network of volunteer professionals willingly and regularly provide specialty care and consultations at no charge. The participation of area hospitals is also a critical component of their program as well as partnerships with many other healthcare facilities and community agencies. The clinic provides health care services to individuals who may be employed or just may not have enough income to be able to afford health care on their own and who don’t qualify for other assistance programs.
