Rainfall hasn't stopped the Dismal Swamp from burning

Despite there being more than a foot of rainfall the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge fire has not stopped the fire from burning. The fire started on August 4, 2011 and has already burned an estimated 6,377 acres, which is about six percent of the refuge that crosses the borders of Virginia and North Carolina. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has had up to 400 firefighters on the scene and it is said to be about 90 percent contained. Read Full Article
