What your social media profile photo says about you in business.

Today, social media profiles are widely used by business professionals as a way to network but are you aware that it also is becoming increasingly important in building your business identity. Have you ever really thought that one very important component of your social media profile is actually your picture and the pictures within your profile.

Experts advise that you should have a profile picture. "LinkedIn research shows that a page with a profile picture is seven times as likely to be viewed as a page without one", says Nicole Williams, connection director for LinkedIn. Remember your profile picture should be of you alone and not your pet or significant other unless it's part of your professional image (i.e. pet care provider or marriage counselor).

Ms. Williams also advises that your social media profile can be ruined by a photo someone else thoughtlessly posts. You have to be aware of post other people have "tagged" you in. Such as a picture showing you drinking wine or out of control partying at a club or bar. If you are sharing your profile with other professional people in your network, you don't want them seeing you in certain atmospheres. Some things should remain between your personal family and friends especially if you plan to conduct business with the professionals within your social media network, you don't want their first impression of you be an unfavorable one.
